Career Progression at Johnstons of Elgin

I started at Johnstons of Elgin as a Spinning Apprentice in 1996 and have worked my way up through various roles, including Spinning Chargehand and Yarn Manufacturing Manager. I am now General Manager at our Elgin Mill and have enjoyed 26 incredible years with the company.

Qualifications/Memorable courses attended:

I have had the chance to complete various exciting courses, achieving Six Sigma Professional certification (Yellow, Green and Black Belt), which teaches management techniques to improve business processes. I also completed the British Standards Institution (BSI) Lead Auditor training.

Key influences or milestones:

Some of the managers, past and present, have had a tremendously positive influence on me. They remain mentors today and have become good friends.

The best career advice I have received or would give:

Feel proud of what your department does. The excitement for me is when you see Johnstons of Elgin designs at London Fashion Week or our luxury Cashmere in the top stores around the world, and you think, 'that was made here by us!’.
